FRANKENSTEIN AS A ROMANTIC HERO

In this novel, we don’t know who is the monster if Victor Frankenstein or his creation. This Medicine student used his knowledge in a wrong way, because he created an abominable man, but this malformed creature only wanted to call the attention of his creator (father) and when he realized that he had an insipid life and that everybody repudiated him, he wanted to take a revenge on his creator, so Victor was torture by his invention until his death.

The monster is a Romantic hero because of the rejection he must bear from normal society. Wherever he goes, the monster is chased away because of his hideous appearance and his huge size. So he was isolated by society and find the protection in the forest, where nature took him in, because nature isn’t corrupted by people thought and he could demonstrate his feelings and show that he was very sensitive and he hurt because he wanted to be love and nobody accepted him.

Henry Vaughan: "The Retreate"

1) who's the speaker and who's speaking to?

The poet is the speaker and he is talking to himself.

2) type of vocabulary (loving, violent, angry, etc)

The type of vocabulary in this poem is Nostalgic and melancholic.

3) Alliterations, metaphors, comparisons, assonances, personifications (that is to say any literary figure you find in it)

The literary figures are:

Metaphor:
when I Shin'd in my Angel-infancy!
Could see a glimpse of His bright face:
But a white celestial thought
When on some gilded cloud, or flow'r,
And in those weaker glories spy
Some shadows of eternity:
But felt through all this fleshly dress
And tread again that ancient track!
But ah! my soul with too much stay
Is drunk, and staggers in the way!
And when this dust falls to the urn,

Personification:
Or taught my soul to fancy aught
And in those weaker glories spy
Before I taught my tongue to wound
And when this dust falls to the urn

Assonance:
When on some gilded cloud, or flow'r,
My gazing soul would dwell an hour,

Rhymes:
Before I understood this place
Appointed for my second race,
Or taught my soul to fancy aught
But a white celestial thought:
When yet I had not walk'd above
A mile or two from my first Love,
And looking back--at that short space--
Could see a glimpse of His bright face:
Before I taught my tongue to wound
My Conscience with a sinful sound,
Or had the black art to dispense
A several sin to ev'ry sense,
But felt through all this fleshly dress
Bright shoots of everlastingness.

O how I long to travel back,
And tread again that ancient track!
That I might once more reach that plain
Where first I left my glorious train;
From whence th' enlightned spirit sees
That shady City of Palm-trees.
But ah! my soul with too much stay
Is drunk, and staggers in the way!
Some men a forward motion love,
But I by backward steps would move;
And when this dust falls to the urn,
In that state I came, return.

4) what's the poem about? (love, hate, faith, life, death)

The poem is about life because the poet talk about his own life (He remembered the things that he did during all his life) and death because he known that he will died.

5) your opinion about the poem.

In my opinion, it is a difficult poem, but it is very interesting, because I think that everybody will face this moment between life and death, for that reason, this poem helped me to analyze my life and think what I am doing for me and for my environment.
I also felt that the writer didn’t be afraid of death and he begun to make a reflection about the things, he could do and he couldn’t do during his life, and he only had to accept that situation.

King Lear

Characters of the scene

· King Lear: He was The king of England. He had three daughters and two of them were disloyal to their father, for that reason, he was arrested and put into prison by Edmund.
Personal Characteristics: He was very innocent; He was just because we wanted to be impartial with his daughters.

· Edmund: He was the illegitimate son of Gloucester. He took into prison to King Lear and Cordelia.
Personal characteristics: He was very unpleasant, mean and he was a resentful person. He is the villain of the story.

· Edgar: He was the legitimate son of Gloucester and Edmund’s brother.

· Albany: He was the duke of Albany. He was Goneril’s husband

· Kent: a loyal servant of King Lear

King Lear is the king of England and he and one of his daughters Cordelia were arrested and put into prison by Edmund, they were in The British camp near Dover. Edmund ordered to one of the officer to kill them. I think that there was a conspiracy between Edmund, the two King Lear daughters and theirs husbands.
Goneril gave poison to her sister Cordelia and killed her so when King Lear knew that his loyal daughter had died he didn’t want to live anymore because he thought that he didn’t have any reason to live. After that King Lear died. I felt that this scene was very cold and funereal.
